If you like Japanese POP culture or work for a business which handles Japanese animations/mangas, you might want to participate in this industry event, Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2013. This event is held on September 6th, 7th and 8th. Note that September 6th is open only for businesses.
Although it is a trade fair mainly for businesses, anyone can visit including tourists. One of their objectives is to open this event to everyone, to welcome and cultivate fans from foreign countries.
You can see some shows and performances in the open zone, and you can eat exclusive foods tied to anime/manga characters. Plus you can see the PR booths for anime/manga studios, manufactures, educational organizations and so on.
You can get a ticket at several hotels including ANA Crown Plaza Kyoto, Eco & Tech Kyoto, Kyoto Itoya Hotel, Kyoto Tokyu Hotel, Kyoto Shin Hankyu Hotel, Hotel Alpha Kyoto, Hotel Granvia Kyoto, Hotel Honnoji, Hotel MyStays Kyoto Shijo and Village Kyoto. And great thing about being a foreign tourist is that you can get a ticket for free (you need to show your passport when you get your ticket)! Unfortunately English pages are not ready yet at this moment.
The even is held at Miyako Messe. It is next to the National Museum Modern Art, Kyoto, and the closest station is Higashiyama station (Subway Tozai).
