Kyoto is among the most popular cities in the world ranking (2013), according to the US travel magazine, Travel and Leisure. Kyoto was ranked in the top ten with Bangkok(Thailand), Istanbul(Turkey 2nd), Florence(Italy 3rd), Cape Town(South Africa 4th), Rome(Italy 6th), Charleston(South Carolina 7th), Barcelona(Spain 8th), Paris (France 9th) and Chang Mai(Thailand 10th).
This ranking was made by Travel & Leisure which invited their readers to participate in the poll. The scoring categories for Cites were set as Sights, culture/arts, restaurants/food, people, shopping, value and Optional: for romance.
I know that the readers from this magazine do not represent all travelers. In fact, it seems like their target audience are well-to-do jet setters. For example, if back packers had been invited to join the survey, the result might have been different. However, I am sure everybody can enjoy and have a great time visiting Kyoto, whether you are a used to luxurious travel, backpacking, or something in between.
Still, I’m proud that my favorite city is popular among people in foreign countries as well as in Japan. Kyoto does deserve this level of attention, because this is truly one of the most wonderful cities in the world.
