Craft Forest at Shimogamo Shrine

This flea market is held at a beautiful, quiet and divine forest called Tadasu no Mori. Other than various kinds of hand-made crafts, the food booths and food trucks are gathered. In addition, a music festival is also held at the same place. October 5th & 6th 10:00 – 16:00.

Special Public Opening at Ginkakuji Temple

Ginkakuji Temple is going to open a couple of historically-valuable objects to the public. If you are interested in Buddhism and its culture, this might be worth checking out. Ginkakuji itself is one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Kyoto. October 5th – December 1st. 10:00 – 16:00 (15:30 Last Entry)
Place: Ginkakuji Temple
Fee: 1000 yen for Special Public Opening and 500 yen for normal entrance fee (1500 yen in total). If you go for normal viewing, the cost is 500 yen.

Saigu Procession

Saigu Procession is an event in Arashiyama Area. This event commemorates a historical event where a girl from the Imperial court (Saio) was sent to Ise Shrine. Hundreds of people will walk with Saio (the girl) wearing gorgeous traditional cloths. October 20th, the procession starts at Nonomiya Shrine at noon.

Jidai Festival

Jidai Festival is one of the three biggest festivals in Kyoto along with Aoi Festival in May and Gion Festival in August. In this event, there are more than ten groups of processions with 2000 people wearing clothes which represent each era. It starts with the Meiji Restoration Period and works backwards. It is interesting to watch the differences in the style of clothes. October 22nd Kyoto Imperial Palace(12:00) → Karasuma Marutamachi (12:30) → Karasuma Oike (12:50)  → kawaramachi Oike (13:20) → Kawaramachi Sanjo (13:30) → Sanjo Jingumichi (14:10) → Heian Jingu Shrine(14:30)
