Utano Youth Hostel in Kyoto has been chosen as the most relaxing youth hostel from more than 400 hostels all over the world.
As a matter of fact, as long as access is not a problem, this can be better than staying at normal backpacker style accommodation facilities.
There are many benefits to using this hostel.
Cultural experience courses (paid).
Samurai Experience (4320 yen), Maiko Experience (3500 yen) and Kyo-Yuzen Dyeing (1680 yen) are currently provided. As for the Kyo-Yuzen Dyeing course, a reservation is required (at least three people must attend to open session). Plus this hostel hosts a daily event called Everyday One, which provides one short performance or class from 20:00 after dinner time (mostly free). In addition to these cultural courses, several interesting courses are also provided.
Rent a cycle
Utano Youth Hostel rents bicycles for 500 yen per day. And for one hour or less, it’s free. Although at the beginning, accessibility was mentioned as a disadvantage, there are many sightseeing spots in this area. For more information, please check Use Randen And Visit Many Spots In One Day. As mentioned in the article, Ryoanji Temple, Ninnnaji Temple, Kinkakuji Temple and Koryuji Temple can be reached by bicycle.
Various types of rooms
This hostel boasts five different types of rooms. 6-bed rooms and 4-bed rooms are both for sharing (they can be used as private rooms). And 3-bed rooms, 2-bed rooms, and Japanese rooms are also provided. 2-bed rooms (twin rooms in other words) have a private toilet and bath. The Japanese room needs at least 5 people to rent. In addition to standard shared shower rooms, they have big spa style bathrooms for men and women (separate).
Food is very important and for some people, it is one of the biggest events when traveling. This hostel provides home-made, healthy food every morning and dinner for a reasonable price (morning: 610 yen dinner 970 yen). Unfortunately there is only one choice for every meal, so check the menu first and then decide. Of course, visitors can enjoy cooking themselves at the hostel.
