Kyoto has a movie studio which has been used for many popular movies/TV programs for many years.
They run a theme park called Toei Kyoto Studio Park, which is based on Japan’s Edo Period (1603 – 1868).
There are many fun things happening at this park. For those who feel disappointed that Ninjas and Samurais do not exist anymore, go to this venue.
Usually sightseeing spots in Kyoto such as shrines and temples close at 4 – 5 PM unless they hold illumination events. And Toei Kyoto Studio Park is usually included in this category (- 18:00 at latest). However, during summer, more specifically Saturdays and Sundays from July 26th – August 24th and everyday during August 12th – 15th, it will open until 21:00.
From 16:30, visitors can enjoy the attractions at a more reasonable cost (1100 yen/Adult, 700 yen/Middle & High School Student, 600 yen/3 y.o – Elementary School Student). This is a nice idea because most of the attractions will extend their open hours to 21:00, the temperature will go down at night which will make it easier to enjoy and visitors can see a special illumination of Gozan Okuribi (bonfire event).
There are many fun performances as well, especially Chambara Water Fight at 17:15 and Ninja Show Goemon at 18:30 are worth checking out.
