Kyoto City has been promoting the safety and quality of their tap water.
Thanks to its location, surrounded by mountains and close to the biggest lake in Japan, Lake Biwa, Kyoto has an abundance of natural water.
Drinking tap water at the hotel is safe, and also it is said to be suitable for using it for cooking.
Drinking cold water during summer is one of the best and most affordable solutions to protect from heat (remember, Kyoto’s summer is very hot and humid).
This has resulted in a new drinking water spot in front of Kyoto City Hall (opened on July 14th). It is not necessarily worth making a special trip, but for those walking around Teramachi Arcade and Shinkyogoku Arcade who get thirsty, why not try cold and refreshing water?
