During summer, because of summer break, there are many families with kids coming to Kyoto. Kyoto is a wonderful destination for families because Kyoto is very safe, and there are many spots to visit and things to do. However, kids might get tired of visiting old shrines and temples again and again.
In that case, Kyoto Zoo is a life saver. It is not the world’s biggest zoo, but there are plenty of animals and birds in this zoo, and it is easy to access (10 min walk from Higashiyama Station (Subway Tozai Line)).
There is good news for families coming to Kyoto this summer. For a specific period this summer, Kyoto Zoo is open until 20:00. (They usually close at 17:00). when the sun goes down, the zoo will be lit up, and visitors can see almost all the animals that can be seen during the day time.
For example, guinea pigs, Siberian tigers, lions, mountain cats, giraffes, zebras, hippopotamuses and much more. Unfortunately, chimpanzees and gorillas and some other animals can not be seen. But it is still nice to enjoy the zoo in the late afternoon and evening time, because the temperature has gone down a bit.
