There is exciting news for those who love visiting museums wherever they go.
Kyoto National Museum has been closed due to renovations. However, it will reopen from September 13th 2014.
The main building, called Heisei Chishinkan Wing, is being renovated, and will mainly be used to display the normal collections. And to celebrate this reopening, the museum will display many historical objects related to Kyoto. This sounds like the perfect display for people coming to Kyoto from all over the world. Portraits, paintings, crafts, tools, sculptures and more. Every piece is very valuable, and many of them are designated as National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties. Note that this display will end on November 16th.
Price: 520 yen/adult, 260 yen/university student, FREE/high school student and under.
Note that to see the special display starts from October 7th as well, the price will be: 1500 yen/adult, 1200 yen/university student, 900 yen/high school student, Free/junior high school student and under.
Open Hours: 9:30 – 17:00 (Last Entry 16:30)
Closed on: September 16th, October 14th and November 4th
Since this museum is located across the street from Sanjyu Sangendo Temple, it might be a good idea to visit these two places on the same day.
