Hotel Recommnedations for Kyoto Marathon Runners 2015

Congratulations for all of the people (including myself) who were lucky enough to be selected to run the full marathon in Kyoto on February 15th 2015! It is a great opportunity and simply fun to run in Kyoto, where historical sites are located and beautiful nature can be seen.

Note that every runner needs to check in 1-2 days before the marathon. This means everybody needs to come to Kyoto a few days to prior to the marathon. This also means that making a reservation for a hotel room will be a necessity.

As you can guess, there will be many people coming to Kyoto at the same time. Of about 15000 runners, 1000 are supposed to be Kyoto locals, who do not need to get a hotel room. Thus the other 14000 people are now competing to get a hotel.

To support visitors/runners, the organizer of Kyoto Marathon have prepared a special webpage to introduce accommodations in Kyoto. Click here and there is a list of hotels. As of this writing, there are 47 hotels listed. But not every hotel is equally suitable for Kyoto Marathon runners who want to do some training before the marathon.

So out of these 47 hotels, taking the jogging courses and location of the goal into consideration, the following are my top 5 hotels for Kyoto Marathon runners.

Royal Park Hotel The Kyoto

Very close to Kamogawa River, which is the best jogging course in Kyoto.
Luxurious and a great location for shopping and dinning as well.

Hearton Hotel

Hearton Hotel is located between Kamogawa River and Nijo Castle, which is another great jogging course.
Reasonably priced and very convenient. One minute from Karasuma Oike Station (Subway Tozai and Karasuma).

ANA Crown Plaza Kyoto

ANA Crown Plaza Kyoto is located across the street from Nijo Castle. Running around Nijo Castle (1.8 km) is perfect training as well as interesting.

The Westin Miyako Kyoto

Luxurious hotel near Heian Jingu Shrine, which is the goal of Kyoto Marathon. This means that runners can “walk” back to the hotel and take a hot shower as soon as possible after the marathon. Surrounded by several great sightseeing spots, such as Heian Jingu Shrine, Shorenin Temple and Chion-in Temple.

Hotel Gimmond Kyoto

Located on Oike Street, where Nijo Castle and Kamaogawa River are both within jogging distance. Great location for walking around and shopping, since it is very close to an arcade, called Teramachi/Shinkyogoku Street.

As for the jogging courses, read “3 Great Jogging Courses in Kyoto“.
