Hawaiian Style Pancakes in Kyoto

Nowadays, there is a trend in foodie culture in Kyoto. It’s Hawaiian style pancakes.
It is very popular at this moment, probably not only in Kyoto but also all over Japan.

Hawaiian style pancakes are much softer and fluffier than normal pancakes. They are perfect treat after a long sightseeing adventure in Kyoto in the late afternoon with a cup of coffee. But since they are provided in Japan, these pancakes are not too sweet and can be had as lunch.

It might seem strange, but once these fluffy pancakes enter your mouth, it is easy to understand why they are popular now in Kyoto and Japan.

Fukumimi

This Hawaiian themed cafe was here way before this trend arrived. Fukumimi is inside a Japanese traditional house, which creates a hybrid atmosphere. Even if someone in the group does not like pancakes, don’t worry. They have some Hawaiian style meals as well, such as Locomoco and Grilled Tuna Steak. But if visiting Fukumimi at lunch time, consider the Pancake-Lunch set first.

Eggs’ Things

Eggs’ Things is from Hawaii, and possibly the most popular chain in Japan. It is safe to say that their pancakes served with gigantic amounts of whipped cream has made them so popular. Famous Kona coffee is also served. This restaurant has a motto: All Day Breakfast. Because of this promise, they provide a breakfast menu all day.

Closed On: Irregular

Moena Cafe

Moena Cafe is an award winning restaurant, established by a famous chef who once worked as a head dinner chef at one of the most prestigious hotels in Hawaii, Moana Surf Rider. Their pancakes are cooked in a way that can be tasty without adding sauce or fruits. Also, their Locomoco (rice bowl with a hamburg and a fried egg on top) uses a short rib instead, which can be perfect for lunch. Be aware that they have a wide variety of alcoholic beverages as well.

Running Room Cafe

Unlike the three cafes mentioned above, Running Room Cafe is located in a quiet and peaceful location, Kitayama. It is possible that their pancakes are the fluffiest. There are two kinds, normal and ricotta cheese style. As it is easy to guess from its name, many runners visit this cafe. If visiting Kitayama Area just to eat pancakes does not sound like a good idea, then visit the botanical garden as well.
