Right now, the Sakura, cherry blossoms are almost in full bloom in Kyoto. This is one of the busiest seasons, and even if you tried three months ago, it would have been very difficult to book a hotel. In Japan, cherry blossoms are a big thing. They’re not just beautiful but also in most areas in Japan, they symbolize the season for meeting new people and saying good-bye to current friends, starting a career or graduating from school.
So naturally commercial industries take this as an opportunity to sell more stuff. Sakura Latte at Starbucks is the prime example of this. However, it usually sells out very quickly, and this year, it was finished by the beginning of March in certain stores.
There is good news though. For those who want to enjoy the flavor of Sakura while viewing them, Tsujiri, one of the most famous and prestigious green tea stores in Kyoto, serves Sakura related products until April 30th. They now have Kyo Latte Sakura Smoothie Pudding, Kyo Latte Sakura, Tsujiri Sakura Soft Cream (ice cream) and Kyo Sakura Latte Gift Pack. These products are not just Sakura flavored. They all use Matcha (powdered green tea), which makes them at least worth trying.
Open Hours: 11:00 – 20:00
Note: there is another Tsujiri Store, which is technically a different company, on Shijo Street. The one that serves Sakura related products is located closer to Kamogawa River and Minamiza Theater.
