Golden Week is a holiday season in Japan, with several national holidays coming one after another. April 29th Showa (previous era) Day, May 3rd is Constitution Day, May 4th is Greenery Day and May 5th is Children’s Day. This year May 6th is a substitute holiday for Constitution Day, which comes on Sunday.

As a result of these consecutive days-off, many Japanese people will visit Kyoto from all over Japan. And families with kids will visit Kyoto Aquarium. It is easy to see that Kyoto Aquarium is going to be very busy, and so the official website is trying to inform visitors of how busy it will likely be depending on the day and time. Unfortunately that information is currently not provided in English. So here’s the information, which might help visitors determine the best time to visit.

As the above information shows, the night (17 – 20) is less crowded. Since most sightseeing spots, especially shrines and temples, close at 17:00 it makes sense to visit Kyoto Aquarium after that time. In that case, it is better to try to get there by 17:00, considering the ticket price and limited time remaining (one hour might not be worth 2050 yen).
