2 Days Left Till Umekoji Locomotive Museum in Kyoto Shuts Down

As reported in “Good Bye Locomotive Museum, Hello Railway Museum“, Kyoto’s Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum is going to finish business on August 30th, which is just a few days away from now.

For those who love railways, this unknown spot is great to visit. In addition, anyone coming to Kyoto with kids might also enjoy visiting this place, since visitors here actually can ride the locomotives (200 yen per person and it leaves at 11:00, 13:30 and 15:30). In the neighboring area, there is a big park and Kyoto Aquarium, which will kids will also absolutely love.

Note that there are thousands of railway fans in Japan. It is possible that a lot of them will flock to the museum to enjoy the rustic displays one last time.

It is sad since this rare museum has been here for almost half the century (opened in 1972). However, in the same location, Kyoto Railway Museum will open in the spring of 2016. And fortunately, some of the locomotives at the locomotive museum will be displayed at this new museum as well. Stay tuned for updates.
