The leading foreign currency exchange service, Travelex, and an Internet Service Provider called BIGLOBE are starting to sell SIM cards to foreign tourists.
Actually this particular SIM card, called NINJA SIM, has been available at many electronic stores throughout Japan since March 2015.
But now these cards will be available at 38 locations of Travelex currency exchanges shops. This move makes sense since the currency exchange service is a place foreign tourists will doubtlessly visit at least once or twice.
This SIM card (nano & micro) which has 3GB is sold for 5000 yen (including tax). Adding one GB costs 2160 yen.
In Kyoto, the following three shops sell the NINJA SIM Card.
Kyoto Shijo Shop
11：00-19:00 (18:30 on Sun)
TiS Kyoto Station Shop
TiS Kyoto Station West Shop
10:00-20:00 (Mon, Tue, Thu & Fri)
10:00-18:00 (Sat & Sun)
