If you are in Kyoto now (September 25th 2016), go to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for their monthly fair. Kitano Temangu Shrine holds this event on every 25th, to commemorate the birth and demise of Michizane Sugawara (845-903). He was a well-known and competent politician/scholar and enshrined here as a God.

On every 25th, there are many food stands on the main street to the shrine. You can enjoy the traditional festive atmosphere in Japan. Additionally, the shrine will be illuminated at night.
