Go to Arashiyama in Kyoto to See ‘Saigu Parade’

If you are in Kyoto now (October 16th), go to Arashiayama, more specifically, Nonomiya Shrine & Togetsukyo Bridge to see a parade called “Saigu Procession”.

A ‘saigu’ was a unmarried court lady who was sent to Ise Jingu Shrine when a new Emperor was enthroned. This event replicates this sacred procession, whith more than 100 people wearing traditional beautiful clothes and walking with the Saigu.

The procession will start at Nonomiya Shrine at noon on October 16th (Sun), and arrive at Togetsukyo Bridge at around 13:00 – 13:30.
