If you are in Kyoto now (January 7th – 30th 2017), visit Nijo Castle, because now you can see its magnificent garden from inside the Ninomaru Goden building which is full of history.
You usually can’t see the garden from inside this building, because all the doors and windows are closed. But to commemorate the 150th anniversary of one of the most important historical events in Japan, Taiseihoukan (restoration of imperial rule), they will be opened. That’s because this event took place in the Ninomaru Goden building.
Nijo Castle is open from 8:45 – 16:00. Note that it is closed on Tuesday.
